Publication Issue

Open publication - Free publishing - More cuisine

here is the complete issue book of the cuisine publication this gives an idea on how it will read. In terms of layout i like the white space left, with 20mm margins adds to the legibility of the piece while the body type works well with the larger leading. i think the book gives a believable image.

Publication Design.

I am proposing 5 publications one for each of the sub catergorys with in this identity.  The publications will be distributed free around Greater london. will be found in coffee shops etc, this will enable the target audience to obtain them as well as stubble across them as well as free posting them to adress with in a 10 mile radisu of the city of london.. the idea behind the publications are simple, simply to inform the reader of the good things going on with in the square. An area that people outside of the mile have lost respect for.

PUBLICATION CUSINE...

Here is the design of the front cover.. for the title text i have decided to use steelfish. this gives a bold interesting image.  I have followed the layout from the previous letter head.. this will become a strng identity through out the rest of the project and will give a nice identity. The back cover will also join up with this.. whilst the other for publications will do the same, creating a nice image.

The publication will be monthly hihglighting people of whats going on with in the subcategories.

FIRST DP

Here you can see an example of the first double page spread with in the work.. the publication will consist of high quality imagery, perhaps best utilised by a gloss stock. The heading work well with the underline twice, draws the eyes to the area.  the address for each restaurant will be given as well as telephone numbers..
On a monthly basis the mile will in this case keep the same food reviews, this gives the middle class audience a sense of familiarity and there for will get to no the reviewers through there words. something that will give the identity of the mile a postive spin again.

SECOND DP

The black and white photographs i think contrast nicely with the focal point of the food. With this layout i like the way the images go off the page. The white quotations also work well on the images again something for the readers eyes to be drawn to.

As well as food reviews i have also included adverts advertising other aspects of the mile identity which will only encourage people to come here for alternative reason.. not just cuisine in this case.

Open publication - Free publishing - More adert

Exampples of the mocked up hobbs adverts, thus advertisng mile fashion.

here you can see the fourth double page, this is perhaps my favourite as i think the way the image is layout is strong as well as it being a strong image.
What i like about the typographic layout is the drops caps and the left aligned, the drops caps add a sense of sophistication to it, even though the body text is times new roman and the drops are steel fish. i think the combination works.

what you will begin to notice is that the mile cuisine logo is at the bottom of every page this just reminded the reader i guess.. the more places you can get away with putting it the better.

I think left aligned text was the right option in terms of text layout.. it doesn't leave widows etc. especially at a 8.5 times new roman font. the leading is at 11 also. which helps with legibility .

ANother example of advertising the square mile in the publication.. this time architecture.

The last double page spread of the 22 page publication. again following the same format.

This is the back cover that wiill match up with the front cover. once put togeather as a publication.. each back cover will have its only individual speel which will descirbe the internals of the book.

Applying the Logo-Bus Card

As i explained it is important to united the business in the Square mile under one identity dependant on there subcatergory:

Business
Culture
Cuisine
Architecture
Fashion.

These cover attractions and the main identity of the square mile.. this identity will create unity with in the mile that will make the square mile seem more aproachable to outsiders.
Below is business car mock ups of the logo applied.

Here you can see how the logo applies easily without taking away from the companies logo themselves something that is important.

Below you can see examples of how the identity would look on letter heads.

Applying this to letterheads gives the identity more strength on how it can be applied perhaps through out stationary sets. The strongest of these letter head i believe to be the the later. I like the way the logo cover the top right corner and is incomplete until you look on the back of the page. i will continue this theme as the project develops.

Here is the moving identity of the general logo developed on after effects very simply. I think this is important as moving image is becoming increasingly so. It also give potential visitors to the square mile. a more interesting visual.

THIS WOULD BE USED IN THE TUBE STATIONS, ON THE FLAT SCREEN TVS MOUNTED TO THE WALLS...

Logo Development-City of London

Open publication - Free publishing - More devlopment

Here you can see what perhaps is the most important part of my project.

The task was set to great a logo or identity that every business with in the square mile could use no matter how big or small. Something that would be free of pretentiousness, something the mile is known for.:

The initial stages of the logo i was playing specifically on the square as a whole image or representation for the square mile which makes sense, however i wasn't feeling anything that i was producing. There wasn't that clean coporate edge that i wanted to my work, and what i thought would be best represented by the target audience and sophistication of the mile itself.

It wasn't until i started using gradients that the ideas began to develop. The colours i have used to represent the different sectors with in the square mile... so as well as creating unity under one logo...in form.. they are segregated in colour.

This helps potential visitors to the square( which is a main part of my project, to get people to come to the square mile and witness the culture) it helps visitors differentiate.

The final resolutions i think i nice looking, and mange to keep a corporate edge as well as using a slightly serif typeface which adds to the sophistication on the identity, something i think the target audience will appreciate thus giving the correct image.

Concept Crit-City Of London

These are the initial concept boards from the first crit. The feedback was generally good, having done some good research around on the project i felt in a position to start, what was apparent however was that  with the time constraints i needed to be careful with my time management and trying to do to much
What they said i would need to focus on is that creating the identity of every business with in the square mile under one logo to show unity with in the mile between all business.

Thus working from here to promote unity and the things going in with in the square mile.
The square mile is what i am going to re brand the city of london as this will enable the negative connotations that comes with the city not to be important.

CHOOSING THE BRIEF-SAM EDWARDS

Being a self initated brief we started looking at a selection briefs chosen over the break. The ones that reallly caught my eye were those that were based around branding and identity. Specifically i looked at the City of London D&AD brief and The Design Bridge whisky one, which was based on focusing whisky at the target audience of women.

After the first session we had come up with over five things that we wanted to achieve in this brief.
the condensed version of this brief for me is shown below:

1. Creating a solid Brand
2. Creating a large range of products
3. Creating a Publication
4. Appealing to a target audience that i had not in previous projects.
5. Using Way Finding in a project.

Creating a Brief...

The breif i decided to focus my attention on was that of the city of london venture three brief. This was based around re branding the city of london in a postive light.

With this in mind i have decided to Set myself a brief as below:

THE BRIEF:

The brief was to rebrand the city of London.  Moving way from the negative Stereotype that the public have of the city. Connotations that derive from the financial crash of 2008 as well as the unapproachable feel the city has to outsiders due to its high-end pretentious image.

THE TARGET AUDIENCE:

Middle classed family's living in greater London.

DELIVERABLES:

LOGO- identity of the square mile.
PUBLICATIONS- focusing on the positives with in the square mile
PROMOTION- encouraging the audience to visit the square mile.
WAY-FINDING- directing people around the city of london.
DIGITAL MEDIA-interaction on the web.
