Dialect-Enterprise.

Below is a body of work that is based around dialect, a graphic design agency, with a focus on branding and identity. which we have created for a bussiness and enterprise module. The usp of the company is that we would give the client fresh new designs, by having a network of the best new blood in the industry, that  will work with us on the clients work. We needed to come up with a logo as well as a full page spread advert that will appear in creative review.

The Logo

to come up with the logo we gave ourselves an hour to come up with something that, had a strong identity in itself as well as effectively communicated the name. The name dialect has originated from the language of design, and the voice we give our clients by creating there identity. as well as the different areas of the country we source our new talent from.

here you can see the chosen logo, the idea behind it was to focus on common language between us and the client. We used brail as the basis for the logo, as this is another was of communicating with people, it also give a strong brand image. didot was the typeface used as its a relatively neutral serifed typeface, that gives the company a certain brand image. the brail will also look good embossed on business cards etc.

Creative review ad

for this part of the process we were asked to put forward an advert as a group we decided to do a full page in creative review at a cost of 8k. however we thought it to be worth the money, as a result the poster had to eye catching, although we decided to go for a simplistic idea, that would take two looks to work out. the quality of print would make the poster, crisp and eye catching.

we focused on the brail again, and the communication that gives. The company description still needs some work, however as a final layout i think its a good looking advert, that will prove to be eye catching,  and work well with the print quality.

Type Task 1-didot.

For this task we have been asked to produce a page spread which highlights the differences in type anatomy between didot, which was my chosen typeface and times new roman. I was really focusing on the anatomy of each part of the letter form, and specifically  characteristics such as the transition of each letter effected the character.

this is the first stage of the layout i wanted to give quite a modernist simplicity to the page. there is a large body of text, as a result its important to leave enough room for that. i used di to represent didot, some what an element on the periodic table.

now the main body of text has been added you can begin to see how the layout will work, its going to be difficult to keep it minimal. as there is alot of text, i also need to include examples of the letter forms talked about with in the text.  It was difficult to get some of the spacing right between the columns of text, which are aligned from the left. i think i may need to make it more obvious that the typeface chosen is didot.

here you can see the almost complete layout, i still need to the characters discussed in the body of text. which may well over complicate the final page, however it is a necessity. there could also be some alteration on the complete typeface. i have added didot twice more to highlight the typeface discussed.

here is the complete layout, i like the way the circle interacts with the type and the white type within the circle his a focal point of the page. The slightly debatable letters arranged in the d are the only part i am unsure of. i also like the way as you go down the page. the thickness of lines used decreases. i think the layout works well and communicates accurately.

Presentation boards

These are the concept boards for the crit on top ten.

the crit was useful, it highlighted areas for improvement with in the concept, i also need to come up with a more specific design style, considerations such as colour and the most appropriate typefaces, i no the style in which i want to emulate, however i have to realistic, with the restrictions my limited knowledge of after effects will allow.

Bounce Sequence 4

For this sequence i thought it was important to start working with the cameras, and get to grips with how they work. I want to give the impression of the type moving towards the camera. i also wanted to start looking at using 3d with after effects.

here you can see that i have used a camera, it allowed me to give the effect of the words coming at the screen. using 3d allowed me to do this, i think it gave the word a more consistent movement which using key frames you some times do not get, consistent in terms of the movement. it also saves time when doing a larger pieces of film.

the only key frame movement with in this piece of film is the full stop, which just simply bounces to finalise the clip. taking into to account the kinetic energy of the falling shape.

these are the 8 key frames from this clips, i think this has been the most effective clip, visually. the cameras used give a clearer and more effective movement, as a result i will continue to use cameras thru out this module.
