To begin our silent movie brief we were given two words mine were Bounce and Snap.. And respond to the brief using both or one of these words. In the initial session we were told to pick one on of the letters in these words and work with movement highlighting the key frames of movement each sequence was 5 frames.
Here you can see the n of the word bounce. I am using the n to represent the meaning of the word bounce by having it bounce around the screen.
these were the first most simple timelines done through out this process, it became apparent very early on that the word bounce appealed to me more as it gave me more visual scope as a result i decided to focus on it for the silent movies.
the net stage in the process of the story boarding was to look at using the whole word as a representation of bounce. I began exploring different ways in which the word could be demonstrated. There were hundreds of considerations that were important to consider. For example typeface, stroke, colour. etc with in the final movies in which there are 5 we were aloud one colour plus back and white.
As time went on, the ideas began to come to me far easier, i also became more adventurous in what i was exploring with different weightings etc. and the way things moved. this also progressed along side the after effects software lessons, as i began to understand what could be achieved with the software which obviously altered my story boards.
Here we can see the another development in the story board process.. i have began using bounding lines, these are representative of what is the visible on the screen at certain points. I have also began looking at creating a 3d effect with different camera angles etc. This will allow me to add a whole other dimension to the final outcomes.
After having a crit on the 5 sequences i began to focus on, there were certain considerations that had to be taken into to account for example i still had not considered colour on the story boards etc. As a general rule i had to be specific on each sequence before i went into the design process. i also began to realise how long each sequence could take to do effectively, 5 seconds although it may not seem long, is actually along time in terms of designing. I had adjust some of the sequences for the time constraints.
the three sequences above were part of an exercise which was done in a session with a fred. In the session we were asked to choose one sequence and from this one sequence highlight the key frames and choose an equal time and screen shot it. in the session we were then ask to arrange them on a timeline, this is a process that will prove useful when designing your own clips. It also was a useful process as it allowed me again to understand how much movement needs to be created in each sequence.
in the four images above i am looking at finalising ideas for the silent movie briefs, i am taking into consideration movement and how each key frame will move specifically. i have added the the sequence on to the timeline to get a solid idea on what timings with in the sequences.
The three images above are focusing on one of the sequences and looking at how, the key frames are positioned along the sequence. This is key frames in the sense of the main events of the sequence. It has now become apparent to me that i need to start designing..the process of story boarding and using the timeline is of paramount importance in the process as i now feel prepared to crack on. i will continue to develop the story boards as the process continues.
